If you intend to drive a car, you must necessarily dwell on the operation. Some boxes are automatic and others manual, so there is a big difference especially if you train on one or the other for the passage of the license. A manual gearbox
All cars generally offer a manual version, because it is the most widespread model and it is especially the one offered in a driving school when learning the license. So you have three pedals, the clutch, the brake and the accelerator. You also have to focus on the gearbox to successfully increase your pace. The first step is to press the clutch pedal as hard as possible and to pass gear 1 if you are stationary or the one above when you want to accelerate.
Here are some basics:
The right foot controls the accelerator (right pedal) and the brakes (center pedal), while the left foot concentrates on the clutch pedal (left). Fully depress the latter when you wish to change gear. At this precise moment, the clutch is in neutral, ie it does not engage in any of the manual transmission gears.
Vehicles do not all have the same selection grid. Take a good look at yours to understand the position of the different gears. How? Just take a look at the small diagram resembling the letter H and matched with numbers on the gear lever knob. Some models have five gears, others six. Sometimes the reverse gear (identified by the letter R) is in the upper left corner, other times in the lower right corner. So take the time to study the box and its lever, especially when you change vehicles.
Before you even start the engine, take the opportunity to practice your gear changes. Be sure to depress the clutch pedal fully so that you can easily slide the lever from one position to another.
In short, the clutch allows you to change gears while driving. Not necessary to understand how it works, but try to realize its importance.
To better learn to drive with a manual transmission, I recommend that you find a deserted and flat place. In my case, an after-hours mall parking lot served as my playground. other task.
Check if the lever is already engaged in one or other of the gears. If necessary, depress the clutch pedal and move the lever to neutral (center of the grid). It is always better to start the vehicle with the gearbox in neutral. Then, keeping the clutch pedal depressed, step on the brake pedal with your right foot and turn the key in the ignition.
Before going any further, be sure to slip the lever into first gear. Release the handbrake (if applied). To learn to recognize the point of friction, that is to say the clutch point of the gears of the manual transmission, gently lift your left foot until you feel that the vehicle begins to move forward. Do not touch the accelerator right away.
When you feel the vehicle moving forward, you can take your right foot off the brake pedal and apply some pressure to the accelerator. Don't be discouraged if the engine stalls. You may have released the clutch pedal too quickly, or you may not have pressed the accelerator enough. Do not panic! Yes, it's frustrating, but soon you won't even think about it.
